At CPS, all of our physicians are board certified or board eligible through the American Board of Anesthesiology or the American Board of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Our physicians continually expand their expertise through various educational and research opportunities and professional organizations.
Dr. Michael Papenfuse, DO received his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. His internship was at MSU Sparrow Hospital and his residency was at Ohio State University Hospitals. Dr. Papenfuse is instructor for Society for Pain Practice Management (SPPM), the International Pain Institute (IPI) and an adjunct faculty member at Saginaw Valley State University. He is also certified as a Diplomat of both the American Board of Anesthesiology and American Board of Pain Medicine.

Dr. Ryan Bearer, DO received his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. His internship was at Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital in Commerce, MI and his residency as well as his Pain Fellowship was at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. Dr Bearer was the Chief Resident of Anesthesiology at Henry Ford 2008-2009. He did a presentation at the Midwest Anesthesiology Residents Conference in Chicago IL in April 2009 on Pulsed Radiofrequency. Dr. Bearer is also certified as a Diplomat of both the American Board of Anesthesiology and American Board of Pain Medicine.

Matt Eagleson, DO
Dr. Eagleson is a graduate of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also received his Bachelor of Science in 2004 from Michigan State University. His internship and residency was served at McLaren Lansing where he was the Anesthesia Chief Resident. Dr. Eagleson also served a pain management fellowship with CPS in Saginaw. Dr. Eagleson is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiology, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
Our five nurse practitioners are the backbone of Comprehensive Pain Specialists. They work in conjunction with our physicians and are the first person you’ll discuss your condition with.
Our nurse practitioners have a combined 60 years of experience. Along with their family-focused nurse practitioner training, they each hold a master-of-science degree in nursing and board certifications for pain management in nursing. All of our nurse practitioners are also adjunct faculty at Saginaw Valley State University. Additionally, all are continually educated by our top-notch physicians to make your treatments as effective as possible.
V. Ann Holmon, NP
Ann has over 23 years experience in nursing, with 18 of those as an operating room nurse. She received her undergraduate degree from Alcorn State University in Lorman, MS. She earned her Master of Science Degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner with a Post Master's Certificate in Nursing Education from Saginaw Valley State University.
She is an elected representative to the Board of Directors for Blue Care Network Health Insurance, East Region. She is also a member of the Michigan Council for Nurse Practitioners, American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the Association of Operating Room Nurses.
Marcie S. Welker, NP
Marcie has experience as an RN in emergency medicine and critical care areas at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, MI. She earned her BSN from the University of Michigan, Flint, and her MSN from Saginaw Valley State University. She is board certified as a nurse practitioner with an additional board certification in pain management, which qualifies her to be an expert in this field.
She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners, American Society of Pain Management Nurses, and frequent guest lecturer in the SVSU Nurse Practitioner Program, as well as community lecturer on complex pain management issues.
Carolyn Leadholm-Wittke, NP
Carolyn received her undergraduate degrees in nursing at Delta College and at Saginaw Valley State University. As a RN she worked extensively in radiation oncology with over 16 years experience. She received her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and is board certified in Family Practice, with a second board certificate in Pain Management.
She has a special interest in managing malignant pain and is part of the intrathecal pump program at Comprehensive Pain Specialists. She participates in speaking engagements to the community on pain related topics.

Marcie has many years experience as an RN working in various areas such as emergency medicine and critical care at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, MI. She earned her BSN from the University of Michigan Flint, and her MSN from Saginaw Valley State University. She is board certified as a nurse practitioner with an additional board certification in pain management, which qualifies her to be an expert in this field. She is also certified in acupuncture by the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute and practices this modality which has been proven to be highly effective in the treatment of pain as well as other health issues.
Marcie is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners, American Society of Pain Management Nurses, the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute, involved in the research projects at Comprehensive Pain Specialists, frequent guest lecturer at conferences, and adjunct faculty in the nursing program at Saginaw Valley State University.
